A resume and a curriculum vitae (CV) are two types of documents that are used to apply for jobs, but they have some key differences. Here are some of the main differences between a resume and a CV:
Length: A resume is usually one or two pages long, while a CV can be much longer, depending on your academic and professional background.
Content: A resume focuses on your skills and achievements that are relevant to the job you are applying for, while a CV provides a comprehensive overview of your education, research, publications, and other credentials.
Purpose: A resume is used to apply for most jobs in the private or public sectors, while a CV is used to apply for academic positions, grants, fellowships, and research or teaching roles.
Geography: In the United States, a resume and a CV are different documents. However, OpporTechies gathered that in some other regions of the world, such as the UK, Europe, and New Zealand, the term CV is used to describe both types of documents. In South Africa, Australia, and India, the terms CV and resume are often used interchangeably.
Reacting to difference with regards to geography, FindErnest Software Services on LinkedIn said, “In all of Europe, the word CV is essentially just a synonym for the resume. So, if you’re applying for a position in the EU, and the job asks for a CV, you should know that it actually means a resume.”
